S-GIRL

project developed at RBA/Urban Object, Guangzhou (CN), 2022

A New Creative Hub in Guangzhou Since 2018, “The Chinese Fashion Year” has marked a turning point for design in China, blending local manufacturing excellence with a renewed passion for lifestyle and creativity. Koukoumu, a pioneering footwear and apparel brand, fully embraces this shift, combining local design research, production, and digital media promotion. The project takes place on the top floor of a former industrial building in Guangzhou, featuring a reinforced concrete structure and an open-air terrace. A pre-existing mezzanine level is dedicated to design, prototyping, and product development workshops. With a limited budget, the design choices focused on simplicity and clarity, resulting in a minimal yet elegant space that reflects the brand’s aesthetic identity. The existing concrete structure was left exposed, while new lightweight partitions were inserted to subtly define areas, making full use of natural light, generous ceiling height, and the modular rhythm of the façades. The 600 sqm space integrates work, research, production, display, and media broadcasting — a true multifunctional platform to support Koukoumu’s evolving vision.
